PENANG

On the ferry to Penang, an old British colonial island situated just off the Malaysian Peninsula. When the British arrived at the island, in order to clear the shrubbery, silver coins were loaded into the cannons and fired into the mangroves and the rainforest.

A rickshaw driver relaxing

The pub we decided to enjoy a few beers in for the evening, situated under 25 stories of an enormous building. The beers hindered our observation power as we tried to understand why the ground was moving beneath us...

... the reason, an earthquake with a magitutude of 8.6 that had hit Sumatra, sending shockwaves through the surrounding area. Immediately after the earthquake, everyone left the buildings and crowded out onto the street.

Our windscreen wipers decided to stop working during the heaviest rainstorm known to humanity on the road south to Kuala Lumpur, making visibility very difficult!

PETRONAS TOWERS

Standing 452m tall, the Petronas Towers are an interesting feature on the KL horizon. The Sky Bridge is located on the 41st floor and allows you to cross between the towers. The piling goes down 20 floors, the towers are created in the shape of an Islamic Rose and it was the tallest building in the world until someone built theirs just that little bit higher!
